First of all… Well done to the boys for putting on a masterclass performance to see them crowned Champions of the Africa U20 Cup of Nations!
To make things even sweeter, the under 20 national structures of Zambian football got a cash injection worth K1.5 million in a sponsorship deal that will last for 3 years.
CFO of FNB Zambia, Ackim Chalwe announced the deal while speaking at the Taj Pamodzi Hotel where he said the deal was a long-term commitment by the bank to Zambian football and that the deal had been in negotiations for over five months but had been catalyzed by the success of the U-20 team at the continental youth tournament hosted in Zambia.
“We are proud to formally announce the official sponsorship of the U-20 team. The sponsorship is worth K1.5 million (USD 150,000.00) over a three-year period,” Chalwe said. “FNB being long-term partners and friends of football, our sponsorship is guaranteed for three years and is not in any way tied to the results of any matches the team plays…” he said.
According to a report by Lusaka Times, FAZ president Andrew Kamanga said the sponsorship to the U-20 will be fitted in the association’s blue print for promoting youth football.
The FAZ president said the sponsorship for the U-20 will help the team prepare for the FIFA World Cup in Korea but most importantly be spread across the country beyond the forthcoming tournament.
Zambia having been the first to qualify, will be joined by Senegal, South Africa and Guinea at the FIFA U-20 World Cup Korea Republic 2017.
The four African sides join 20 other teams from Asia, Europe and South America who had already booked their place prior to the Africa U-20 Cup of Nations’ kick-off, with all four semi-finalists earning a place in Korea Republic.
