We have decided to roll the survey out to all readers just so we can hear from other users of the Mukuru service for the benefit of those thinking of using it too, we will share the results in due course.

March Survey Results

Below are the actual responses to the survey we asked some people to take in March, some individuals chose to remain anonymous but are all Zambians living in South Africa. All responses were from women aged between 25 and 45 years old.

Question 1. Why do you need to send money to Zambia?

Answer: I send money to family.

Question 2. How did you hear about Mukuru?

Answer: I heard about Mukuru in Zimbabwe.

Question 3. When was the last time you used the service? 

Answer: 3 weeks ago.

Question 4. How often do you use the service?

Answer: I use Mukuru often, like twice in two months.

Question 5. Where did you go to get registered and send money? 

Answer: I got registered at power house by the Zimbabwe buses.

Question 6. What did you need to take with you to register?

Answer: Passport.

Question 7. How long did it take to process the transaction in South Africa?

Answer:  It only took like less than 5 min.

Question 8. How long did it take for the money to reflect in Zambia?

Answer:  In 10 min money is already in Zambia.

Question 9. How did they know that the money had reflected in Zambia?

Answer: SMS notification is sent to both me and the receiver.

Question 10. How long did it take to process the transaction in Zambia?

Answer:  Less than 5 minutes.

Question 11. Where did the recipient go to collect the money in Zambia?

Answer:  ZOONA.

Question 12. Have you used any other services before and how would Mukuru compare to the other services?

Answer:  I only use mukuru.

Question 13. Why did you choose to use Mukuru?

Answer:  It’s so much faster.

Question 14. In your view, what would make the service better?

Answer:  If only they would reduce on rates.

Question 15. What did you like most about the service?

Answer:  I like the service because it’s quicker to send money back home with less
pressure.

Question 16. Is it worth the money/time spent and effort to use the service?

Answer:  It’s worth it.

Answer:  I would rate mukuru 9/10.

Question 1. Why do you need to send money to Zambia?

Answer: To support relatives or ask someone to make a payment on my behalf.

Question 2. How did you hear about Mukuru?

Answer: Through a friend.

Question 3. When was the last time you used the service? 

Answer: About 2yrs ago.

Question 4. How often do you use the service?

Answer: Only used it once.

Question 5. Where did you go to get registered and send money? 

Answer: I registered over the phone. I used my friend’s Mukuru agent based in Joburg and he registered me over the phone.

Question 6. What did you need to take with you to register?

Answer: My ID. In this case, I took a photo of my ID and sent it via WhatsApp.

Question 7. How long did it take to process the transaction in South Africa?

Answer:  Less than 10mins.

Question 8. How long did it take for the money to reflect in Zambia?

Answer:  It reflects almost instantly when the transaction is complete here.

Question 9. How did they know that the money had reflected in Zambia?

Answer: There is a PIN that is sent to the receiver. (Can’t remember whether they receive notice from Mukuru or you send pin to them)

Question 10. How long did it take to process the transaction in Zambia?

Answer:  Less than 10mins.

Question 11. Where did the recipient go to collect the money in Zambia?

Answer: At Zoona branch but money can be collected also at Inter Africa Zambia.

Question 12. Have you used any other services before and how would Mukuru compare to the other services?

Answer:  Yes I have. Mukuru is better.

Question 13. Why did you choose to use Mukuru?

Answer:  Mukuru does not ask for proof of income and address.

Question 14. In your view, what would make the service better?

Answer:  An online service.

Question 15. What did you like most about the service?

Answer:  Only ID required to send money without the demand of other docs.

Answer:  Yes.

Question 1. Why do you need to send money to Zambia?

Answer: To help my family financially and I do poultry farming in Zambia which needs me to buy feed and other stuff for my business.

Question 2. How did you hear about Mukuru?

Answer: From a friend.

Question 3. When was the last time you used the service? 

Answer: Two weeks ago.

Question 4. How often do you use the service?

Answer:  Once or twice in a month.

Question 5. Where did you go to get registered and send money? 

Answer:  There is an office near a vegetable shop in Benoni.

Question 6. What did you need to take with you to register?

Answer: My passport and a certified copy, proof of residence, proof of work, and three months bank statement.

Question 7. How long did it take to process the transaction in South Africa?

Answer:  4 working days it was approved.

Question 8. How long did it take for the money to reflect in Zambia?

Answer:  The minute I pay for the order the money is ready for collection.

Question 9. How did they know that the money had reflected in Zambia?

Answer:  An SMS is sent to me and to the recipient in Zambia simultaneously.

Question 10. How long did it take to process the transaction in Zambia?

Answer:  Less than 5 minutes if there is no queue.

Question 11. Where did the recipient go to collect the money in Zambia?

Answer:  ZOONA

Question 12. Have you used any other services before and how would Mukuru compare to the other services?

Answer:  I have used [company name removed], money gram from my account, it’s almost the same but there is too much paperwork, and the time spent for me its way too much.

With mukuru you are registered, all you need to do is make an order on your cell phone and go and pay at Shoprite or Checkers as simple as that.

Question 13. Why did you choose to use Mukuru?

Answer:  It’s quicker, it’s simple, you can reverse transactions with no complications and no cost.

Question 14. In your view, what would make the service better?

Answer:  Sometimes it’s difficult to add a recipient or make an order because their system is down.

Question 15. What did you like most about the service?

Answer:  When you go and pay for an order, everything is in order within seconds transaction is done. It’s good to feel like they know you.

Question 16. Is it worth the money/time spent and effort to use the service?

Answer:  It’s worth every time and money spent. I will definitely use Mukuru.

Answer:  Randburg, Johannesburg – Retailer but I can’t remember the name, sorry.

Answer: Just my ID.

Answer:  +-10 minutes.

Answer:  24 hours.

Answer:  SMS was sent to the recipient.

Answer:  Truthfully, I am yet to experience something that offers me better service. Mukuru is the best for me.

Answer:  Make it easily accessible no matter the location.
